It’s almost that time of year again — time to keep your feeders full, mow your shooting lanes and keep an eye on your game camera cards for that perfect deer.

My family loves spending time out at the deer lease. With spotty cell service (at best), you have to have meaningful, uninterrupted conversations with those around you. Being tucked in the woods, with no distractions, is a wonderful place to be. No social media, just the coyotes yelping in the distance. Evenings by the campfire, illuminate smiling faces as fun stories or chats are shared. Cards are played and washers are thrown. Memories are made.

This month, we pay tribute to the great outdoors. We are excited to cover an amazing event that gives disabled hunters an opportunity to harvest an animal. We have an exclusive article about a new ladies’ shooting league, the Lufkin chapter of A Girl & A Gun. John Lloyd Jones, who specializes in sporting art, is our featured artist this month. One of our favorite outdoor writers, Matt Williams, has provided some great content — including the Hunting Forecast, Regulation Changes and other various outdoor articles.

Wishing you have a safe and successful hunting season this year!v
