“Color is a power which directly influences the soul.”
— Wassily Kandinsky, Russian painter and art theorist
Move those dark, moody grays, blacks and browns to the back of your closet, ladies. This summer, to fit in, you’re going to need to stand out. According to The Pantone Color Institute’s vice president Laurie Pressman, the colors to look for this year are bright, bright, bright.
When it comes to color, no one has more authority across the world than Pantone. The Pantone Color Institute provides customized color standards, as well as trend forecasting. The color palettes they select each year dominate everything from women’s and men’s clothing to home décor and cosmetics.
This year’s palette of Pantone’s most popular, on-trend colors are Living Coral, Fiesta Red, Jester Red, Pink Peacock, Tumeric, Aspen Gold, Princess Blue, Pepper Stem, and Mango Mojito — invoking a totally updated ’80s-to-early-’90s vibe.
“From a psychological standpoint, when you look at what the colors mean, the hotter colors particularly in the red family are all about empowerment,” Pantone Color Institute’s executive director Leatrice Eiseman said. “Confident, uplifting, joyful hues, but the undercurrent is empowerment to all of them.”
